For nearly two centuries, the chore jacket has been a staple of hardworking wardrobes, valued for its durability and practical design. This interpretation builds on that legacy, offering a refined version of a true workwear classic.
Based on the Five-Pocket Chore Jacket, this piece is constructed from a robust 12.6oz cotton duck canvas. This tightly woven fabric, using two yarns in the warp and one in the weft, creates a smooth yet highly durable surface that is less prone to tearing. The term “duck” originates from the Dutch word “doek,” historically used for strong textiles such as sails, tents and traditional workwear.
The jacket is cut in a generous, slightly boxy silhouette, reflecting the proportions of original chore coats from the early 20th century. This relaxed fit allows for comfortable layering while maintaining an authentic and timeless character.
Functionality remains central to the design. Multiple pockets, including three outer pockets with an additional patch ticket pocket and one inner pocket, provide ample storage. Copper rivet buttons reinforce the construction and add a subtle utilitarian detail.
Over time, the cotton duck canvas will develop a natural patina, giving the jacket a unique character shaped by wear. A dependable everyday piece, built to last and designed to age beautifully.
