Layer by layer: two looks from our studio

What you see in a final image is only part of the story. Beneath our store in Arnhem, our handmade Van Gogh-inspired studio is the setting for every Fall Winter 2026 look: built, styled and photographed by us, from the first idea to the final frame. Here are two of those looks, both built around layering.

An ecru work jacket

For the first look we worked with soft layers and contrasting textures: an ecru work jacket over a textured wool knit and a shirt, balanced by relaxed dark trousers. The jacket is the Drake's duck canvas chore jacket in natural. It is based on the brand's Five-Pocket Chore Jacket and made in Portugal from a 12.6oz cotton duck canvas, woven with two yarns in the warp and one in the weft for a smooth, durable surface. The name duck comes from the Dutch word doek, once used for strong cloth such as sails, tents and workwear.

The cut is generous and slightly boxy, after the proportions of early 20th-century chore coats, which leaves room to layer underneath. Copper rivet buttons, three outer pockets with a ticket pocket and an inner pocket complete it. Over time the canvas develops its own patina.

Layer by layer

In the second look, on Giel, every layer stays visible and adds something of its own: a white T-shirt as the base, a soft blue shirt, a textured knit and a short herringbone jacket on top. Relaxed dark trousers, suede shoes and touches of green and red finish it. The trousers are the Universal Works pleated track pant in olive recycled tweed: wide, with an elasticated pleated waist and a flecked tweed that brings warmth into a dark look.

The same chore jacket also comes in olive, which works just as well over a knit and dark trousers.

Why we layer

For us, layering is not simply about adding warmth. It is about finding a balance between materials and letting every piece play its part. The warm yellow walls become part of that composition.

All pieces are available online and in our store in Arnhem. See the original posts on Instagram: Behind the canvas and The art of layering.
